Self-Evaluation of Presentation

1) The content that I was trying to convey seemed to come across clearly.

2)The introduction was effective, I began my presentation with some back story so that the details would make sense. I had a distinct conclusion, although I did not restate my thesis.

3)The body section flowed smoothly and was present in chronological order.

4)The transitions were used effectively. I did not use the words "lesson" but "point".

5)I ended my presentation with quotation by saying that I would retry my activity, what I did not get across is that I would do it with my new lessons in mind.

6)My delivery was good, due to my lack of preparation I did not exactly have outstanding timing. It sounds like my volume was good and speed of speech was understandable. My gestures were descriptive and added good realism to the presentation.

7) Overall my weaknesses include lack of preparation/ lack of sleep. This in turn made my thought process slower, which created unnecessary pauses in speech and filler "um", "SO". My strengths included ability to address audience, and hold good posture and gestures throughout.

Rainbow-War

1) In the beginning of the movie the red only trusted red, because it was their culture the did not know what other colors were like and the never got a decent chance to be introduced to them so they only wanted what they were comfortable with.

2)In the end, it was better for the three kingdoms to be together. They all got to experience new colors and cultures. All peoples showed visible signs of happiness which were not there previously.

3)Yes, There will always be problems it is something that is ingrained in the spirit. No solution solves all problems. It may be for land, color, food, overpopulation. In conflict theory there is absolutely no solution.

4) I think it could be said there is some correlation between the events in the video and what is currently going on in Afghanistan. We the US are infiltrating just cause we don't like whats going on. There is no greater purpose to war than fiscal gain.

5)The message of the video is don't just immediately just another culture, especially before you give it a go.

Discrimination

When I moved to UT 6 years ago, I went to my first day of school and started talking to the kids I had in my classes. I discovered that every person I was going to talk to would automatically start the conversation with two different intros: "Are you Mormon?" or "Are you LDS?". It was an odd feeling, like I didn't belong. Once I got over the culture shock I noticed some of the kids were asking because they themselves were not Mormon.

I discovered that people become very sensitive about discrimination when I was attending cottonwood high school. I had an American government class there was only one African American fella in there and he sat far across the room from me. One day when the teacher stepped out 3 guys that sat by him started spewing slurs out of their mouths. It made me sick. The poor kid up and left. I never saw him in class again or even school.

Creativity

After listening to Sir Ken Robins lecture on creativity I feel that the three most important ideas include, If you are not prepared to be wrong nothing new can occur. Intelligence has three main characteristics it is diverse, we learn through sight, sound, and kinesthetics. And the idea that we must re-think the fundamentals of how we educate. This speech as a whole was EXTREMELY thought provoking and I enjoyed the perspective.

Taking Notes

Two things that will help me take better notes is using the Cornell page setup I think the recall section is good for organization. Also, regularly going over notes and reducing them will help to only focus on important info.

Timed Readings

This experiment was very interesting because, the opportunity to scale my reading speed had never come up.
1st 262 WPM 6/6
With my first read I was not going for speed, I just read my normal rate.

2ND 315 WPM 6/6
On this test I went as fast as I thought I could while still retaining info.

3rd 471 WPM 5/6
Here I went literally as fast as I could read, and as you can see I missed a question.

4Th 232 WPM 3/5
Due to missing a question on my 3rd try I went slower here, but I was preoccupied and still missed answers.

5Th 571 WPM 4/7
Discouraged by my previous score I pushed for a higher rate and got it but I also lacked comprehension.

Reading Improvement

First, I would like to say that this video being excruciatingly out of date and poorly edited did not effect the excellent material within. I had never hear of the SQ3R method before and I truly wish someone would have sat me down previously to let me in on the secret.
The two things that I will focus on FIRST are: Surveying, Speed. I am going to make a pattern for my self to go through my sections and create an outline with, headings, sub-headings, and titles. This seems like an outstanding idea to get started on a section outline.
Speeding up my ability to read was also very interesting, although I don't consider myself a slow reader the method of sectioning out pages seems like a great trainer.

Preparing for and Taking Exams

The next time that I am preparing for an exam I will take the time to create questions for the highlights and headings for each individual section. Making time for shorter more frequent study sessions is a good idea as well. In the past I have had many instances where my scheduling and time management have been consistent and well planned, but I always seem to break the pattern. I am going to consciously make an effort to better my time management.
When doing essay questions during a test I like the idea to outline your answer on the margin of the page. My above all favorite idea of what to do during a class is without a doubt to rip it up into little pieces and then ask the professor for another.

Disarming Tests

I discovered when I took my first Anatomy test that the professor I had at the time was sadistic, evil, and downright unkind. I not only sweat, struggled and, almost shed a tear but on top of all that I completely bombed the test. 54%.

I want to walk in to an exam room feeling prepared, sound minded, having the knowledge to concur. I intend to do this for the rest of my academic career.

Making A Difference

That was very inspirational! I think what those brothers are doing is great. Without a doubt one person can make a difference, if one person so much as takes the time to tell another person about a cause that alone can make a change. With a company like Me to We, one person can truly make a tangible difference. Going to a different country and building a school or a playground for a community that would be grateful and put it to good use is making a change. So the answer is yes, one person can make a difference.

Education By The Hour

It is almost difficult to justify staying in school. The result subtotal was much higher than I thought it was going to be. The correlation I made between school, time, and money is: If I was to get out of SCHOOL I personally would have a lot more TIME and I could also spend more MONEY on things that I like to do now.

Intelligence

Intelligence is subjective, and infinite. This statement may be taken as a given however, most people outside of the academic community feel that you are given only so much brain power; hence the phrase "he's smarter than me". My experience with learning has already proved that to be incorrect. It has become apparent that if I try hard enough or long enough at something it is possible to "teach" yourself to do it or "learn" it. And, in the respect of intelligence, this is one thing which can be built on and expanded over time.

Time Management

The video on time management, I found to be educational and monotonous. Thank you professor green for not making us watch the whole thing. I learned three main lessons: To be aware of the time you spend, it is crucial to stay goal oriented, and time thieves are more plentiful than previously imagined. Two things I will change in the way I plan and use planning include creating an activity log. It is my bi-yearly goal to do a activity log to see how I'm spending time and assess my priorities. The next tool I'm going to use is the FLEXTRAC. I like this concept of build a schedule around things that are set and mandatory such as work and school.
In addition, I am going to make my health and physical fitness a higher priority and be sure schedule time for these activities. Only because I love the metaphor I want to mention the "Swiss cheese method" this will stick with me in planning and life.

Multiple Intelligences

With Howard Gardeners Multiple Intelligences I found out that I am very strongest spatially, bodily, and interpersonal and weakest linguistically and musically. I don't necessarily agree with these statements as I feel that I am strong to very strong linguistically and still somewhat high musically.

Learning Styles

Using the Learning styles inventory, I have learned that I am more of a social learner than a physical one. I have always thought that hands on learning ways most effective for me and this holds true. Obviously by the graph I am least effective logical learner. However I consider myself to be a logical person so it should not be to hard to put real life experiences in use.

What I Want From My Education

What I want from my education is to be able to not only hold on to know the information. I also would like to be able to teach others. It is crucial for me to be able to recollect the things I learn for a greater good.
When I complete my education, I want to be able to help people get well without the use of medications. So that people no longer will be prescribed addiction. I also want have enough free time to have fun and do things that enjoy for the rest of my life in good health.

My purpose for being in school, is to educate myself, to increase the size of my brain, and build my IQ. So that I can help the general public be well and free themselves from the system.

Campus Resources

Three things that I discovered in my scavenger hunt that will make me a MASTER STUDENT are :
1. The writing center can tutor you live over the web.
2. Golden Sea Express serves General Tso's AND Orange Chicken.
3. The Thayne Center will help me to work around my current schedule to make time for Community Service.

An Interesting Person

Ellie Nielson is a very interesting person because she wants to save someones life before she dies. She comes from a family that includes six girls ranging from ages twenty-six down to eight. Her family enjoys things like going to lake Powell, and very very long road trips. In college she is studying Anthropology. Her justification is that she will be a doctor some day and Anthropology is a different approach to studying the same information. The best part about this beautiful girl is that on top of fashion, school, and crafts her interests also include ME! This small town girl is actually from Salt Lake City, UT. She is a very interesting person.

About Me

Hey,

My name is Maxwell Thaddeus John Weyhenmeyer. I hail from a small tourist town called Jim Thorpe, PA, I lived in this town for approximately 13 years of my life. Growing up in Northeaster Pennsylvania has it's ups and downs, for instance, I have been able to accrue such hobbies as mountain biking, kayaking/rafting/river guiding, skiing, climbing, fishing, and windsurfing. On the contrary side of things, coming from a small town instills what some call a Podunk frame of mind. I have been told however that this will degrade over time. One of my next ventures in life includeded living in Hana, Maui for about a year and a-half with my dad, I have been to Greece and St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands. I have Two Sisters ( one older one younger), and a brother all which are living happily in the middle of the woods in Pennsylvania.

In the fall of 2003 I made the decision to pack up my stuff and make my way west. My reasoning in doing so may sound a little eccentric, but Utah gets somewhere around 600" of snow every year. Also, my father has lived here for about 12 years and is a professional ski instructor at Alta Lift Company. So I had a base and I made the move.

Since I have been in Salt Lake, I have attended Cottonwood High school and squirmed through two years of College. I have picked some new hobbies: long boarding, wake boarding, sky diving, pottery, and a very intense love for Lake Powell. One thing that I will do before I die is walk along a lava flow on an active volcano.

By taking this class I hope to better myself as a student and make the rest of my schooling move by with ease. My attention span will most likely be the hardest challenge to over come. But, hopefully we will be able to charge through and be victorious.
